DUSHANBE, June 10, Asia-Plus – On Tuesday June 10, visiting US delegation led by Utah State Senator John Valentine met with a number of deputies of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) John Lester arrived in Tajikistan today morning for a four-day working visit.
Ms. Gulchehra Bozorova, the chairperson of the Majlisi Namoyandagon Committee on Economy, Budget, Finance and Taxes, noted that it is return visit of the Utah State senators following last year’s visit of Tajik MPs to the Utah State.
According to Mr. Valentine, five Tajik students currently study at educational facilities in the Utah State. During a meeting with Tajik education minister that was held in Dushanbe yesterday, members of the US delegation announced their readiness to provide two scholarships for Tajik students studying in the Utah State cover expenses on their studying and living in Utah during two years.
The Utah State Senate President John Valentine also noted that during a meeting with Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi they had offered organize training for pediatricians treating infants.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting with Tajik MPs, Mr. Valentine noted that the aim of the visit is for them to get acquainted with activities of Tajik legislative body and discuss with high-ranking Tajik state officials state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral US-Tajik cooperation. He also noted that Tajikistan and the Utah State could cooperate on the irrigation and water resources issues.
The US delegation will stay in Tajikistan till June 12.
