DUSHANBE, June 25, 2008, Asia-Plus -- Tajikistan’s Drug Control Agency has hosted a session of the International Working Group to discuss the results of work of the Tajik counternarcotics agency in January-June 2008 as well as activities of forensic examination and canine services.
The meeting was part of the “Tajikistan Drug Control Agency (DCA) - Phase II” (UNODC Strategic Program Framework for Central Asia) and its participants included the Tajik drug control chief Rustam Nazarov, members of the international working group – Mr. Jeffrey Scott Valdo (phonetically spelled), chief of the section for counter-narcotics and law-enforce, the US Embassy n Dushanbe, Mr. Steve Bennett, Senior Law Enforcement Advisor, the US Embassy in Dushanbe, and Mr. Christer Brannerud, UNODC Project Coordinator in Tajikistan, as well as chiefs of services of the Tajik counternarcotics agency.
During the meeting, it was decided to continue providing special technical means, vehicles and office equipment and support strengthening of potentials of the forensic examination lab and canine center, as well as support creation of the language lab for the purpose of raising efficiency of activity of the agency, the source at the counternarcotics agency said. .
The meeting also endorsed conditions of providing grants to the Drug Control Agency in the second half-year of 2008.
