DUSHANBE, July 10, 2008, Asia-Plus  -- Tajik farmers intend to carry out repeated sowing on an area of totaling 101,000 hectares this year, according to press service of the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA).   

Narzullo Dadaboyev, a spokesman for a MoA, said that they had carried out the repeated sowing on the area of 45,617 hectares by July 7, which 45.2 percent of the target.  

According to him, of the total area intended for the repeated sowing, 22,600 hectares have been sown with wheat, 16,150 hectares with maize, 2,870 hectares with rice, and 3,580 hectares have been sown with other crops.  

Besides, potatoes have been planted on 60 hectares, vegetables – 3,255 hectares, watermelons melons and gourds – 937 hectares, industrial crops – 228 hectares, and fodder crops – 18,537 hectares, the spokesman said.
