DUSHANBE, August 12, 2008, Asia-Plus  -- Tajik farmers have harvested 363,000 tons of cereals, including 306,000 tons of wheat, by August 12, According to the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA).   

Narzullo Dadaboyev, a spokesman for a MoA, said that those 363,000 tons of cereals had been harvested from more than 191,000 hectares.  This year, cereals have been planted on an area of 284,000 hectares. 

Some 335,000 tons of cereals have been threshed to this date, which is 40,000 tons more than in the same period of last year.  More than 250 combine harvesters are currently working in the fields.  

In the meantime, an intermediary sowing campaign has been carried out on 108,700 hectares, which is 107.7 percent of the target, the spokesman said.  

We will recall that farmers are planned to have harvested some 700,000 tons of cereals from the irrigated lands this year.  

Last year, 931,204 tons of cereals, including 649,300 tons of wheat, were harvested from 273,403 hectares.
