KULOB, August 25, 2008, Asia-Plus -- Farmers in Khatlon’s Kulob region have yielded more than 1,000 tons of cotton by August 25, Abdullo Rajabov, a lead specialist with the Kulob agriculture directorate, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
According to him, a cotton-harvesting campaign was launched in the region on August 22. “If the weather conditions permit, the Kulob region will be able to fulfill its cotton target this year; to date, still three of five cotton-growing districts of the Kulob region have launched the cotton-harvesting campaign -- Farkhor, Vose and Hamadoni.”
This year, Kulob farmers have planted cotton on an area of 41,650 hectares and the Kulob region has pledged to yield 79,350 tons of raw cotton this year.
