DUSHANBE, September 23, 2008, Asia-Plus  -- President Emomali Rahmon has arrived in New York, where he is attending the 63 rd session of the UN General Assembly.

During his stay in New York on September 23-27, Emomali Rahmon is expected to hold a number of talks with his counterparts, heads of international financial institutions and UN officials.

According to Davlat Nazriyev, head of the MFA information department, on September 24, the Tajik head of state will hold talks with the World Bank (WB) President, Mr. Robert Zoellick.  

The same day, Rahmon will meet the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and Riz Khan, moderator of the high-level event on the Water and Sanitary for All and after that he will preside over this event, the MFA information department head Davlat Nazriyev said.   

On September 25, President Rahmon will attend the high-level event on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).  The high-level event will be a forum for world leaders to review progress, identify gaps, and commit to concrete efforts, resources and mechanisms to bridge the gaps.

The same day, Rahmon will deliver a statement at the general debate and after that he will meet his Finnish counterpart, President Tarja Halonen.  In the afternoon of September 25, President Rahmon will co-chair the roundtable meeting Ecological Stability.  

“On September 26, President Rahmon is scheduled to hold talks with a business group established by the Tajik-US Business Council as well as fellow-countrymen living in the United States,” the MFA spokesman said, noting during his stay in New York, Rahmon is also expected to hold talks with South Korean Prime Minister and meet representatives of the US business structures.  

We will recall that President Rahmon yesterday left for Moscow and from there he flew to New York.
