QURGHON TEPPA, October 6, Asia-Plus - Schools in the Khatlon province are experiencing an acute shortage of teachers of different subjects, the Khatlon education directorate head Jouraboy Sobirov remarked at a conference in Qurghon Teppa, the capital of the Khalton province on October 4.
The conference was dedicated to Teacher’s Day, which is marked in Tajikistan on the first Sunday of October.
Congratulating teachers on their professional holiday, the Khatlon education official called on teachers who left because of low wage rates to return to schools.
According to him, the province now has 1,020 teaching vacancies. Sobirov said that the education directorate is trying to provide schools in the province with sufficient teachers.
He also noted that despite shortage of teachers, school students from Khatlon have actively participated in different Republican School Olympiads this year and won four silver and 11 bronze medals. “This year, 219 school leavers from the province have entered higher educational institutions in foreign countries this year, which is 44 more than last year.
According to the Ministry of Education (MoE), some 1,300 general schools currently function in the Khatlon province.
