DUSHANBE, October 10, 2008, Asia-Plus -- A meeting of the council of the CIS heads of state that was held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan on October 10 resulted in signing of a number cooperation documents.
Speaking at the summit, Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev noted that that a working group at the level of finance ministers will be set up to mitigate effects of the financial crisis, according to Kazakhstan’s news agency Kazinform.
According to Kazinform, President Bakiyev noted that the first meeting of the group is supposed to be held within the next ten days.
The Bishkek summit considered some 20, including the strategy of the CIS’s economic development up to 2020. Besides, the meeting focused on several other important issues related to the cooperation in the humanitarian sphere and development of the economy. The meeting participants, in particular, discussed Kyrgyzstan’s proposal to announce cooperation in the energy industry sphere the Commonwealth’s priority and an initiative of Belarus to declare 2009 the Year of Youth in the CIS.
The CIS heads of state also discussed and endorsed a draft cooperation agreement in the sphere of ensuring information security, draft statement on the intensification of cooperation in combating trafficking of drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors. They also considered a program of cooperation in countering illegal migration for a period 2009-2011 and a regulation “on the order of actions of air defense duty officers of CIS forces after getting information about the seizure of hijacking of an aircraft by terrorists.” In addition, the presidents discussed a plan of events for preparation of celebrations to mark the 65th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.
