KHUJAND, October 14, 2008, Asia-Plus -- the World Bank mission has assessed implementation of the Community and Basic Health Project (CBHP) in Tajikistan positively.
The mission, comprising representatives of the World Bank (WB), the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development (ACTED), visited the Sughd province last week.
According to the CBHP employee Ms. Dilbar Khojayeva, in northern Tajikistan, the project is now implemented in Spitamen and Asht district.
During their stay in the province, the mission members visited the family medicine center in Khujand and the pilot districts. In the Spitamen district, they familiarized themselves with the progress of construction of the rural health center in the village of Saidqurghon.
The Community and Basic Health Project for Tajikistan aims to increase access to, utilization of, and patient satisfaction with health services in project-supported areas, and to build capacity and efficiency at national, regional and district levels in administering a basic package of health benefits and introducing financing reforms in primary health care. The projects is implemented in 41 districts and cities of the Khatlon and Sughd provinces with the total population of 4.5 million people, which is 65 percent of the country’s population.
