KULOB, October 31, 2008, Asia-Plus -- 515 new cases of tuberculosis have been detected in Khatlon’s Hamadoni district since 2004, the Hamadoni district chairman Khoujamurod Fazliddinov announced at a press conference on October 30.
According to him, several lesions of tuberculosis have been revealed in the district. The most serious situation is in the village of Qaragoch.
“515 people live in the village; the first case of TB was detected in the village ten years ago, while this year, TB sufferers have been reported in already 12 families,” Fazliddinov said, noting that eight residents of Qaragoch died of tuberculosis this year.
He said that local authorities have been taking efforts to control the TB situation in the district. “First-aid station will be built in Qaragoch next year and more than 50 percent of the village population has undergone fluorography to date,” Fazliddinov noted.
He also noted that six HIV cases had been registered in the district. “Some of local residents living with HIV have TB,” the district chairman said.
