DUSHANBE, December 2, 2008, Asia-Plus -- State and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Yemen were considered at a meeting of Tajik and Yemeni government delegations and bilateral talks of President Emomali Rahmon and his Yemeni counterpart, President Ali Abdullah Saleh, in Sana’a on Monday, according to presidential press service.
The negotiations resulted in signing of four agreements on trade-economic, scientific-technical and educational cooperation as well as political consultations. These documents will pave the way for laying legal foundation of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
The presidents agreed that established interaction between Tajik and Yemeni medical specialist would expand in the future without enlisting the services of mediators, the press service said.
Tajik and Yemeni presidents also reached an agreement on opening of Tajik honorable consulate in Sana’a.
During his stay in Sana’a, Rahmon also held talks with Yemeni Prime Minister Ali Muhammad Mujavvar, Parliament Speaker Abdulaziz Abdulghani and a group of Yemeni businessmen.
In the meantime, Yemeni news agency SABA reported that President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon on December 1 held talks with deputy chairman of Commerce and Industry Chamber Khaled Taha and head of Yemeni Industrialists Association Abdul-Wasa Hail and a number of Yemeni businessmen. During the meeting, they discussed ways of strengthening economic, commercial and investment cooperation between the two businessmen of both countries, reviewing the available opportunities of investment between the two countries.
The President affirmed his country''s offered great facilities for investors to attract many foreign investments, particularly in the fields of hydropower, production and export of salt and production of high quality aluminum, in addition to various areas to invest in Tajikistan. He called on Yemeni businessmen to visit his country to identify areas of investment and affirmed its support for the visit of Tajik businessmen to Yemen to get acquainted with the multiple areas of investment in Yemen.
For his part, deputy chairman of Commerce and Industry Chamber expressed the visit of Tajikistan delegation is the beginning to establish agreements between the two businessmen of both countries.
Head of Yemeni Industrialists Association Hail affirmed that the two countries enjoyed great investment opportunities in various fields, pointing out to the importance of developing mutual visits between the two businessmen of both countries.
According to SABA, the same day, President Rahmon visited Assaleh Mosque and got acquainted with its components. Rahmon, who was given a gift form the mosque staff, said the mosque has mixed between the originality and the modernity with high quality of creativeness, voicing his desire to make use of Yemeni expertise in building similar mosque in his country. Tajik president also visited the Old City of Sana''a and toured its markets, old quarters and the Grand Mosque.
President Rahmon returned to Dushanbe Monday night.
