KULOB, December 25, 2008, Asia-Plus  -- After thorough study of sites, specialists from the Ministry of Energy and Industries (MoI) have given go-ahead to constructing five small hydroelectric power plants in Khatlon’s Muminobod district, according to the Muminobod district administration.

The power plants are expected to be built near the villages of Qipchoq, Margak and Sarkoron.  “Two power plants will be built near Qipchoq, two other will be near Margak and one small power plant will be built near Sarkoron,” the source said, adding that the supply of daily electricity to residential customers in Muminobod was reduced from 8 to six hours on December 22.

According to the Kulob electricity-distributing enterprise director Mirzo Ismoilov, the reduction resulted from repairs to Unit 6 of the Norak hydroelectric power station.  He noted that 8-hour schedule of electricity supply will be restored in Muminobod today.
