KHUJAND, January 26, 2009, Asia-Plus -- Khujand’s airport will be modernized this year in order to be able to receive planes in any weather conditions, the airport director Maroufjon Mahmoudov said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
According to him, they will install new runway lighting equipment that would allow pilots to land plane even in tight fog.
“This will allow reducing the number of flight delays, which are mostly caused by bad weather conditions,” said Mahmoudov, “The point is that Western type aircraft, like Boeing, that are flying to Khujand are provided with equipment for flying in bad weather conditions, while our airport does not yet have such equipment.”
