DUSHANBE, January 27, 2009, Asia-Plus  -- The first session of the intergovernmental commission for trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation between Tajikistan and Egypt was held in Dushanbe on January 26.

The meeting, co-chaired by Tajik Economic Development and trade Minister Ghulomjon Bobozoda and Egyptian Minister of International Cooperation, Ms. Fayizah Muhammad Abu-al-Naja, resulted in signing of a number of cooperation documents.

According to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MoEDT), the sides signed memoranda of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the fields of media and sports as well as a protocol on economic and scientific-technical cooperation.

The source at a MoEDT said that speaking at the session, Egyptian minister had outlined sectors like hydropower engineering, industry and agriculture as areas of which could drive the bilateral trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.

“We already have an experience of joint work  in the energy sector as representatives of Tajikistan together with other Soviet specialists participated in construction of the Aswan dam in Egypt in the 1960s,” Ms. Fayizah Muhammad Abu-al-Naja said.

She added that Egypt was ready to cooperate with Tajikistan in procuring medicines.  Besides, the Egyptian Ministry of Energy will consider specific energy projects.
