DUSHANBE, February 4, 2009, Asia-Plus -- President Emomali Rahmon arrived in Moscow yesterday evening to attend summits of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and the Eurasian Economic Community (EAEC) that are opening today.
According to Russia’s news agency Itar-Tass, one of key issues that are being discussed at the EAEC summit that opened in Moscow today morning is establishment of the anti-crisis fund.
As it had been reported earlier, leaders of Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Russia and Tajikistan reached an agreement to set up a joint anti-crisis fund of 10 billion US dollars at a two-day summit that was held at the Kazakh resort town of Borovoye on December 19-20, 2008.
Itar-Tass quoted Sergey Prikhodko, an aide to the Russian president, as saying that the fund is dedicated to become and efficient instrument for addressing negative phenomena in economies and finances of the EAEC member states.
The presidents are also supposed to exchange views on issues related to establishment of a center of high technologies for joint development and implementation of innovative projects.
The CSTO summit is supposed to be held in Moscow today afternoon.
According to some media, it is expected that Rahmon will report to summit participants about the difficult situation in Tajikistan caused by the global economic crisis and the laying off of thousands of Tajik migrant workers in Russia.
