KHUJAND, May 6, 2009, Asia-Plus -- Labor migrants within the conscription age from the Sughd province that have returned home are currently joining ranks of draftees.
Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, the deputy chief of the Sughd regional military registration and enlistment office Nosir Toshmatov said that that allowed fulfilling the spring conscription target.
“By May 3, the province has reached 86 percent of the spring conscription target,” Toshmatov said, noting that Zafarobod, Konibodom, Panjakent, Taboshar and Shahriston have already fulfilled their conscription targets. “In these districts, 85 percent of conscripts volunteered for the military service.”
The conscription campaign Mastchoh and Isfara districts has also been progressing.
In the meantime, the spring conscription campaign is still going slowly in Ghonchi (62.7 percent), Khujand (71 percent) and Asht (76 percent).
The spring conscription campaign is carried out from April through May, and the draft affects able-bodied male citizens in the age bracket of 18 years old to 27 years old who are not members of the armed forces reserve.
