DUSHANBE, June 16, 2009, Asia-Plus -- China will provide 10 billion Yuan for mitigation of crisis effects within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) area, Chinese President Hu Jintao announced at a SCO summit in Yekaterinburg on June 16.
“China has made a decision to allocate a $10 billion credit to the Organization for supporting financial stability,” President Hu said, noting that the global crisis was progressing and significant decline in economic activity was to be observed in some countries.
“Our countries should strengthen cooperation within the Organization in order to address crisis and make our Organization stronger,” Mr. Hu said.
We will recall that Tajik President Emomali Rahmon met with Chinese President Hu Jintao in Yekaterinburg on Monday on the sidelines of the SCO summit. The two discussed consolidation of friendship and expansion of pragmatic cooperation between China and Tajikistan. Rahmon and Hu noted that agreements reached between their countries were being implemented successfully. They, in particular, pointed out a good level of cooperation on implementation of projects for rehabilitation of the highway Dushanbe-Danghara-Kulob-Darvoz-Khorog-Murgab-Kulma as well as construction of a new heat and power station in Dushanbe working on coal, hydropower plant Nourobod-1 in eastern Tajikistan, and a new cement plant with capacity of 1 million tons of cement per year in Khatlon province. The two considered it necessary to set up a joint investment fund of Tajikistan and China.
Besides, President Hu noted that the Chinese Government provided a 60 million Yuan grant to Tajikistan for supporting Tajikistan’s anti-crisis program.
