KHUJAND, July 8, 2009, Asia-Plus -- Tajik-Vietnamese joint venture, VT-Silk, plans to deliver new equipment for deeper processing of cocoons, the VT-Silk acting director Uktam Tursunov said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
According to him, new equipment will allow processing even defective cocoons and they will be fit for producing threads. Tursunov added that the enterprise was currently accepting cocoons from local farmers.
“We have accepted 260 tons of damp cocoons from farmers to this date,” said the director, “In all, we plan to produce some 250 tons of dried cocoons in order to ensure regular work of the enterprise until the next cocoon harvest.”
500 people currently work for VT-Silk and the enterprise product (silk threads) is mainly exported to Southeast Asia, Tursunov said.
