KHOROG, July 17, 2009, Asia-Plus  -- Consumers’ debts to Pamir Energy Company (PamirEnergy) have more than doubled in six months to June 30, 2009, reaching 3.844 million somoni, the Pamir Energy Director General Daler Jumayev announced at a press conference in Khorog on July 16.

He noted that as of January 1, 2009, the GBAO electricity debts amounted to 1.793 million somoni.

“Residential consumers now account for 70 percent of the overall volume of the electricity debts and federally funded and commercial organizations account for 30 percent of the debts,” Jumayev said.

Over the first six months of this year, the company generated some 96 million kWh of electric power, which is 1.8 million kWh fewer than in the same period of 2008.  “Decrease in electricity productions resulted from reduction in excess consumption of electricity that was promoted by installation of electricity meters,” the director general said.

In Khorog alone, 5,000 electricity meters have been installed over the past one and half year that allowed to the company to reduce power losses by 0.4 percent.

According to Jumayev, if they are able to reduce power losses to 20-22 percent, the company will be able to provide consumers with electricity round-the-clock even during the winter period.
