KULOB, September 15, 2009, Asia-Plus -- Farmers in Khatlon’s Kulob zone have practically completed the grain-harvesting campaign, having produced 231,750 tons of cereals, including 217,377 tons of wheat, by September 15, which is nearly two times more than last year, Abdullo Rajabov, a leading specialist with the Kulob agriculture directorate, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
“This year, local farmers have planted grains on the area of 97,000 hectares, and farmers in the Shuroobod district have to gather cereals from the last 500 hectares,” Rajabov said.
According to him, grain farmers in Hamadoni and Danghara districts have had record grain harvests this year. “The Hamadoni farmers have reported the highest wheat yields this year -- 3.06 tons per hectare, and the Danghara farmers have reported wheat yields of 2.89 tons/ha,” Rajabov noted.
