DUSHANBE, October 2, 2009, Asia-Plus -- Tajik border guards have seized 864.5 kilograms of narcotics over the first nine months of this year, according to the Main Border Troops Directorate within the State Committee for National Security (GKNB).
A totaled included 105.776 kilograms of heroin, 206.3 kilograms of raw opium, and 552.482 kilograms of cannabis.
Khoushnoud Rahmatulloyev, a spokesman for the main border troops directorate, said that Tajik border guards have warded off 199 attempts of illegally crossing the border as well as detained 402 violators of border and seven drug couriers over the report period.
“Over the same nine-month period, Tajik border guards seized 46 firearms, including 22 assault rifles Kalashnikov, 13 carbines, 1 machine-gun and 846 bullets of different caliber and other ammunition,” the spokesman said.
