ISFARA, October 6, 2009, Asia-Plus  -- The first 86 conscripts from Sughd’s Isfara district were sent to serve in the country’s armed forces on October 5.

Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Colonel Abdusattor Rizoyev, the chief of the Isfara military registration and enlistment office, said that the conscription situation in the district was gradually getting better.

According to the city military registration and enlistment office, more than 180 young men from Isfara will be called up for the military service during the autumn conscription campaign.

We will recall that this year, President Emomali Rahmon signed a decree on drafting young Tajiks into the country’s armed forces from October through November 2009 on September 10.  The draft affects able-bodied male citizens in the age bracket of 18 years old to 27 years old, who are not members of the armed forces reserve. The same decree provides for the retirement from active duty of soldiers and sergeants whose service under conscription is over.
