DUSHANBE, October 26, 2009, Asia-Plus -- Ian’s Deputy Minister of Energy, Hamid Chitchian, heading an Iranian delegation, paid a two-day visit to Tajikistan on October 22-23.
According to the Iranian Embassy in Dushanbe, the purpose of the visit was for to hold discussions with a number of Tajik officials and get acquainted with the process of implementation of the Iran-sponsored projects in Tajikistan.
On Friday October 23, Chitchian met with Sharif Rahimzoda, Chairman of the National bank of Tajikistan (NBT), and Safarali Najmididnov, Minister of Finance of Tajikistan.
The process of implementation of the project for construction of the Sangtuda-2 hydroelectric power plant (HPP) in Tajikistan was a major topic of talks of Najmiddinov and Chitchian.
The Sangtuda-2 HPP has been constructed by the Iranian company, Sangab. The project is expected to solve many problems of Tajikistan in generating electricity and providing power in cold seasons.
According to Iran’s news agency IRNA, Mr. Najmiddinov said that Tajikistan attaches significance to the project, which is planned to be inaugurated in two years'' time.
During his stay in Tajikistan, Iranian official also visited the site for construction of the Sangtuda-2 HPP and the Istiqlol Tunnel that has also been built with help of Iranian specialists, the source at the Iranian Embassy said.
