DUSHANBE, December 7, 2009, Asia-Plus  -- Uzbekistan and Tajikistan may reach an agreement on further continuation of parallel work of their power systems, news agency REGNUM-Novosti reported on December 6, referring to sources at Uzbekistan’s government.

Parallel work of power systems of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan is being continued due to an agreement between the two countries, while Uzbek electricity supplies to Tajik regions that are yet not connected with the country’s power system have not yet been stopped and Uzbekistan is ready to conduct negotiations with Tajikistan on further continuation of parallel work of the power systems and development of conditions, the source at the Uzbek government said, according to REGNUM.

As it had been reported earlier, although Uzbekistan stated that it withdraw from the unified Central Asian power grid on December 1, 2009, it actually withdrew from it on October 30 and since that time, Tajikistan’s electricity-distribution system has been operating independently from the unified Central Asian power grid.

We will recall that a new electricity line connecting the south of Tajikistan with the country’s northern region was launched on November 29.  Three 220-kV power transmission line linking a 500-kV power grid, South-North, with Sughd’s power system were introduced into operation.  According to specialists, with launching the South-North power grid, Tajikistan created its unified power system.  A total length of the South-North power grid that starts in Tursunzoda and ends in Khujand is 386 kilometers.
