DUSHANBE, December 15, 2009, Asia-Plus -- The joint ceremony of signing the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) 2010-2015 and UNDP Country Programme Action Plan (CPAP) 2010-2015 will take place in Dushanbe on December 16, according to the UNDP CO in Tajikistan.
The UNDAF is the strategic program framework developed through an ongoing consultative process that outlines how UN organizations can most effectively respond to national priorities and needs. The UNDAF 2010-2015 is guided by the goals and targets of the MDGs and the objectives set out in the National Development Strategy and Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP), thereby translating them into a common operational umbrella of development activities upon which individual UN Agencies formulate its actions for the period 2010-2015.
The UNDAF 2010-2015 comprises 4 thematic areas, namely 1) Poverty Reduction and Governance; 2) Food and Nutrition Security; 3) Clean Water, Sustainable Environment, and Energy and 4) Quality Basic Services. The UNDAF elaboration process took place in close collaboration with the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) in Tajikistan, the Government of Tajikistan, Civil Society and the Donor Community with the aim of improving the lives of the people of Tajikistan, especially the most vulnerable.
The UNDAF will be singed on behalf of UNCT by Mr. Michael Jones, UN Resident Coordinator and on behalf of the Government of Tajikistan by Mr. Farrukh Hamraliyev, Minister of Economic Development and Trade.
UNDP Tajikistan CPAP 2010 – 2015 directly addresses priorities of the Government of Tajikistan’s National Development Strategy (NDS) and is in complete alignment with the UNDAF 2010-2015 and Country Programme Document for Tajikistan (CPD) 2010 – 2015. CPAP 2010-2015 has been developed by UNDP, the largest Agency of the UN system in Tajikistan in close consultation with key partners and stakeholders focusing its interventions in the areas of (1) Poverty Reduction and Achievement of MDGs, (2) Reducing burden of HIV/AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis, (3) Good Governance, (4) Crisis Prevention and Recovery, and (5) Environment and Sustainable Development. CPAP 2010-2015 will be implemented in close collaboration with key partners and stakeholders including Government Institutions, Donor Agencies and Civil Sector. The overall planned budget of CPAP 2010-2015 is $ 166,306,000.
The UNDP Tajikistan CPAP 2010 – 2015 will be singed on behalf of UNDP by Mr. Rastislav Vrbensky, UNDP Country Director and on behalf of the Government of Tajikistan by Mr. Farrukh Hamraliyev, Minister of Economic Development and Trade.
