DUSHANBE, March 3, 2010, Asia-Plus -- President Emomali Rahmon who is leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDPT) is satisfied with the voting process and the results of the past parliamentary elections, Safar Safarov, the first deputy chairman of PDPT, remarked at a news conference in Dushanbe on March 2.
According to him, the past elections were transparent and democratic. “We started making preparations for the parliamentary elections two and half years ago and held meetings with more than 2 million people during the election campaign and the result – 71.69 percent – is fair,” Safarov said, noting that their party had done all in its power to prevent falsifications and violation of the election law.
“Our observers have not registered such violations,” he said, adding that election observers from CIS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) confirmed that the parliamentary elections in Tajikistan were fair and transparent.
Safarov also noted that despite critical opinion of the OSCE, PDPT was ready to cooperate with it and correct errors that had been made.
“PDPT is ready to cooperate with all political parties in the next parliament,” he stressed.
