DUSHANBE, April 26, 2010, Asia-Plus  -- The Qurghon Teppa-based transformer plant needs reconstructing, Deputy Energy and Industries Minister, Poulod Muhiddinov, told reporters in Dushanbe on April 23.

The plant now manufactures transformers with capacity of only 400 to 600 kW, while the country’s energy sector now needs more powerful transformers, the deputy minister noted.

According to him, the country’s government is currently conducting negotiations with a number of Chinese and Iranian companies on reconstructing the transformer plant in Qurghon Teppa.

Muhiddinov added that Tajik electricity supplier, Barqi Tojik, now owed more than 1 million somoni to the Qurghon Teppa transformer plant.
