DUSHANBE, May 20, 2010, Asia-Plus -- A special commission was set up recently to check the toll road operations on the Dushanbe-Chanak highway, Ms. Yelena Rahimova, the chairperson of the information and international relations department within the Antimonopoly Committee, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
According to her, the antimonopoly agency initiated the establishment of the commission in order to avoid violation of the country’s antimonopoly legislation by Innovative Road Solutions Ltd (IRS) that operates the highway. The commission members include representatives from relevant ministries and organization as well as transportation associations of the country.
“The antimonopoly agency has already submitted its proposals to this commission that has been set up at the Ministry of Transport and Communications,” said Rahimova, “We, in particular, propose to review the legal foundation of the concession agreement signed with IRS and to find out the exact place of registration of this company. The antimonopoly agency also offers to support introduction of social tariffs in accordance with the strategy of reduction of poverty in the country and development of the toll road operation rules as well as to review locations of the toll service stations on the Dushanbe-Chanak highway.”
