KULOB, July 8, 2010, Asia-Plus -- Over the first six months of this year, 36 new cases of HIV infection have been detected in the Kulob zone of Khatlon province, bringing a total number of officially registered HIV sufferers in the area to 274, Amirkhon Ismoilov, an official with Kulob AIDS Prevention Center, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
According to him, 20 new HIV infection cases have been registered in the city of Kulob alone. Farkhor district has reported five new HIV infection cases, Kulob district – three cases, Shuroobod, Temourmalik and Hamadoni districts – two cases each, and Danghara and Vose districts – one case each.
Of 36 HIV sufferers registered over the report period, 12 are women, Ismoilov added.
