KHOROG, July 20, 2010, Asia-Plus -- Over the first six months of this year, the GBAO counternarcotics directorate has warded off four drug trafficking attempts and seized 16 kilograms of narcotics, including 1 kilogram of heroin and 15 kilograms of hashish, Tillobek Odinabekov, an official with the GBAO counternarcotics directorate, told reporters in Khorog today.
“Three Tajik nationals and one Afghan national have been arrested on drug charges over the report period,” Odinabekov said. He did not detail the outcome of the cases.
In all, the GBAO law enforcement authorities have warded off 10 drug trafficking attempts and sized 25.6 kilograms of narcotics over the report period, which is three times fewer than in January-June 2010, the drug control official added. A totaled included one kilogram of heroin, 7.1 kilograms of raw opium and 17.5 kilograms of hashish.
