DUSHANBE, August 31, 2010, Asia-Plus -- The Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan has conducted a large-scale employment survey.
It is the second survey of its kind; the first such survey was conducted in 2004, the source at the Agency said.
“The survey was conducted in the framework of the Tajikistan Strengthening the National Statistical System, sponsored by the World Bank,” said he, “We are currently preparing analytical report that will include detailed information on the survey methodology and analysis of the labor market in Tajikistan based on the employment surveys of 2004 and 2009.”
According to the Agency’s preliminary estimates, 1,856,500 people were employed in Tajikistan in 2009. The overall number of jobless was 241,200 and the overall number of labor migrants last year was 519,900.
The official employment rate in the country stands at 39.4 percent of the overall number of the population aged 15 to 75 and the jobless rate is estimated at 11.5 percent of the economically active population.
