DUSHANBE, February 9, 2012, Asia-Plus  -- Presentation of the project for construction of the Shurob hydroelectric power plant (HPP) on the Vakhsh River took place at the Ministry of Energy and Industries (MoEI) on February 8.

The ceremony was attended by representatives from relevant ministries and agencies as well as the Tajik Aluminum Company (TALCO).

An official source at a MoEI says the designing institute “Nourofar” has developed the project for the construction of the Shurob HPP.

The Shurob HPP with a rated capacity of 862.5 megawatt will be built some 100 kilometers to the east of Dushanbe.  The plant is expected to generate 3.2 billion kWh of electricity per year.

The estimated budget for implementation of the project is some one billion U.S. dollars and several countries, including China, have announced their intention to participate in the construction of the Shurob HPP, the source added.
