DUSHANBE, March 9, 2012, Asia-Plus  -- Two small hydroelectric power plants (HPP) with a total capacity of 37.5 kW have been introduced into operation in the country this year, an official source at the Ministry of Energy and Industries (MoEI) said.

According to him, the mentioned HHPs provide with electricity 55 households and one construction enterprise.

Meanwhile, the construction of seven other small HPPs with a total capacity of more than 2,000 kW is under way.  These projects are being implemented under financial support of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), the Governments of Germany and Japan, Tajik Electricity Company Barqi Tojik and local investors, the source noted.

“Thus, a small HPP with capacity of 100 kW is being built in Khatlon province, a small HPP with capacity of 475 kW is being constructed in Sughd province, two mini HPPS with a total capacity of 135 kW are being constructed in Gorno Badakhshan, and three other small HPPs with a total capacity of 1,300 kW are being constructed in districts subordinate to the center (RRP),” the source added.

In all, 267 small HPPs with a total capacity of 24,000 kW have reportedly been constructed in Tajikistan, since the country gained independence.
