DUSHANBE, September 14, 2012, Asia-Plus  -- In Tajikistan, inflation for January-August this year stood at 4.2 percent, according to the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT).  Inflation for the same period last stood at 8.5 percent.

Prices for products of food industry have risen in cost by 2.0 percent as compared to January-August of 2011, while non-foodstuffs have risen in cost by 4.5 percent in eight months to September 1, 2012.  Prices and rates for services rendered to the population have risen 13.3 percent in January-August this year.

We will recall that in a report released at a news conference in Dushanbe, Ms. Malohat Kholiqzoda, the deputy chairperson of the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT), noted on January 19 that the government expects the year-end inflation to stand at 10.5 percent in 2012.

Meanwhile, Tajikistan’s gross domestic product (GDP) has reportedly grown by 7.5 percent over the same eight-month period, reaching 20.4 billion somoni (equivalent to some 4.3 billion U.S. dollars).

According to Tajik central bank, the retail trade volume has risen 18.9 percent over the report period, services – 14 percent, industrial production 11.7 percent, and production of agricultural goods – 10.2 percent.

The country’s GDP for 2011 amounted to more than 30 billion somoni, which was 5.3 billion somoni more than in 2010.
