DUSHANBE, October 7, 2014, Asia-Plus -- On October 6, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon paid a working visit to the southern Khatlon province.

According to the president’s official website, Rahmon visited Panj, Qumsangir and Rumi districts.

The main purpose of the visit was for the president to get acquainted with the progress of the ongoing harvesting campaign in the area and preparations for winter.

While in Panj, Emomali Rahmon reportedly got acquainted with achievements of local farmers and met local population.

In Qumsangir, the president got acquainted with the progress of implementation of the national program for development new lands designed for 2012-2020.

This program provides for allocation of 100 million somoni for development of 6,500 hectares of new lands.

While in Qumsangir, Rahmon also got acquainted with activities of local farming units and living and working conditions of settlers from Kulob and the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).

In the Rumi district, Emomali Rahmon reportedly laid a cornerstone of a new three-story school.  The estimated budget for this project is more 15 million somoni.
