Since the beginning of the year, 20 cases of natural disasters have been recorded in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, the amount of damage caused amounted to 19 million somoni. This information was reported by the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon to the region's asset on August 17.

According to him, as a result of these incidents, 18 people were killed, the press service of the president reports.

At the same time, the President noted, over the past 25 years, 314 natural emergencies have been recorded within the region, which claimed the lives of 63 people.

The total material damage caused by these events in the socio-economic sphere has reached almost 300 million somoni.

"One of the most recent cases," the head of state recalled, "is the flood that occurred at the end of June in the village of Midenvedi in the Roshtkalinsky district. As a result of this disaster, 10 full-fledged apartments, 2 residential buildings, 1 medical center, 1 store, as well as more than 2.5 hectares of agricultural land and household plots were damaged."

The President expressed a deep understanding of the importance of protecting the population from natural disasters and emphasized the need to ensure the safety and well-being of residents of the region, the message says.

In this regard, by decree of the Head of State, a government commission was formed to resolve the consequences of natural disasters, urgent measures were taken to relocate 210 families living on the banks of the Gun River to safe areas, as well as to restore destroyed houses.

Emomali Rahmon also recalled that the families affected by these natural disasters are under the close attention and care of the Government of the country, and all necessary measures are being taken to provide timely assistance to the victims and proper restoration of the damage caused by these disasters.
