DUSHANBE, April 16, 2011, Asia-Plus -- The World Economic Forum together with INSEAD (an international graduate business school and research institution) has published the Global Information Technology Report (GIRT) 2010-2011.
The GIRT 2010-2011 covers 138 nations, accounting for 98 percent of world GDP, and Tajikistan is ranked 112th among them in terms of adopting and implementing ICT.
Ranked 67th, Kazakhstan has the highest position among the CIS nations. Azerbaijan and Russia are ranked 70th and 77th respectively. They are followed by Ukraine, which is ranked in 90th position, Georgia – 98th, Armenia – 109th, and Kyrgyzstan – 116th.
The report notes Sweden and Singapore continue to top the rankings of the Global Information Technology Report 2010-2011, confirming the leadership of the Nordic countries and the Asian Tiger economies in adopting and implementing ICT advances for increased growth and development. Finland jumps to third place, while Switzerland and the United States are steady in fourth and fifth place respectively. The 10th anniversary edition of the report focuses on ICT’s power to transform society in the next decade through modernization and innovation.
The Nordic countries lead the way in leveraging ICT. With Denmark in 7th and Norway in 9th place, all are in the top 10, except for Iceland, which is ranked in 16th position. Led by Singapore in second place, the other Asian Tiger economies continue to make progress in the ranking, with Taiwan, China, and Korea improving five places to 6th and 10th respectively, and Hong Kong SAR following closely at 12th.
The World Economic Forum''s Networked Readiness Index (NRI) measures the propensity for countries to exploit the opportunities offered by information and communications technology. It is published annually. The NRI seeks to better comprehend the impact of ICT on the competitiveness of nations. The NRI is a composite of three components: the environment for ICT offered by a given country or community, the readiness of the community’s key stakeholders (individuals, businesses, and governments) to use ICT, and finally the usage of ICT amongst these stakeholders.
The World Economic Forum together with INSEAD publishes the Global Information Technology Report, which makes use of the index.
