DUSHANBE, November 1, 2011, Asia-Plus -- During his trip to Shouroobod district, President Emomali Rahmon yesterday visited the Obi Nihol area in Shouroobod, the presidential press service reports.

The head of state gave a kick-start to rehabilitation of the Shouroobod-Shohon section of the highway from Dushanbe to Khorog via Kulob.

Rahmon noted that a total cost of the project dedicated to rehabilitate this 40-kilometer section of the road Dushanbe-Kulob-Darvoz-Khorog-Kulma-China’s border was 93 million U.S. dollars.  The road will be rehabilitated due to funds provided by international financial institutions and the government of Tajikistan.

The project, which is designed for two years, reportedly includes rehabilitation of the road and construction of nine bridges with a total length of 1,064 meters.  The longest bridge will be the Obi Nihol Bridge that will be 264 meters in length.
