A new cement producing enterprise “Suhgd Cement” Ltd. Co. opened in northern Tajikistan. Tajik Energy and Industry Minister Gul Sherali attended the official opening ceremony held on 20th of October.

Check-test production started in late August this year, press service of the Tajik Ministry of Energy and Industry told AP. The official opening took place after a two-month long successful test.

The enterprise is able to produce 100.000 tons of cement per annum. But in the future it is planned to increase producing capacity of the factory up to 1 million tons. This will let the factory become the biggest cement producer in the country.

Currently, more than 140 people work at the factory. The number of workplaces will raise up to 300 with the increase of production capacity of the factory.

The equipment was purchased in China. More than $1.8mln was spent for the equipment.

Currently, Tajikcement Ltd. Co. remains the biggest cement producer in Tajikistan. It produces 1mln 100.000 tons of cement per annum. There are some other cement producing factories in the country.

However, Tajikistan is still unable to satisfy the internal demand in building materials, which are still being imported from other countries.

In September last year the joint company “Juaxin Gayur Cement”, which was established by the Tajik Gayur Ltd.Co. and Chinese Juaxin Central Asia Investment, launched the construction of another cement producing factory in Javan region. It’s producing capacity is 1mln tons of cement per annum. Estimated cost of the factory will make $100mln. The factory, which is expected to be launched in autumn next year, is expected to satisfy the internal demand in high-quality cement.

Cement in Tajikistan is mainly used for construction of strategic objects, including for rehabilitation of Rogun HPP, roads and governmental facilities.
