DUSHANBE, May 17, 2013, Asia-Plus -- The 38th Annual meeting of the Board of Governors of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) will take place in Dushanbe from May 18 through May 22.
35 various vents, including business-forum, exhibitions, seminars and presentations will take place within the framework of the meeting, Abdulfayz Atoyev, the head of the Tajik MFA information department, told journalists in Dushanbe on May 17.
The Dushanbe-2013 Business-Forum will take place in the Tajik government countryside residence Pugus in the Varzob district on May 18.
In parallel, the Federation of Contractors from Islamic Countries (FOCIC) will hold is general assembly in Dushanbe on the same day.
On May 19, the 8th forum entitled “Role of Islamic Finance in Development of Member Countries of the Islamic Development Bank form Central Asia”, a meeting of the Board of Governors of the Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development (ISFD), a forum on youth development and a joint seminar formally titled “Innovation Proposals in the Construction Industry for Member Countries of the Islamic Development Bank” seminar will take place in Dushanbe.
The Forum on Innovations in Agriculture and Food Security will be held in Dushanbe on May 20. Co-hosted by the Agriculture and Rural Development Department of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA), the forum will further discuss areas of innovations in agriculture and food security.
A seminar entitled “Regional Cooperation and Integration in Central Asia and the Caucasus” will take place in Dushanbe on May 20 as well.
A ceremony of an official opening of the 38th meeting of the Board of Governors of Islamic Development Bank and the 24th symposium entitled “Innovation for Economic Development of Member Countries of the Islamic Development Bank” will take place on May 21.
The conclusive session of the 38th Annual Meeting Board of Governors of the Islamic Development Bank will take place in Dushanbe on May 22.
In all, 732 participants from 50 member nations of the IsDB and 68 international organizations will attend the 38th Annual Meeting of the IsDB Board of Governors in Dushanbe.
The meeting of the Board of Governors of the IsDB is the main event of any Annual Meeting of the IDB Group, which is held once a year. Meetings of the Boards of Governors or General Assemblies of the other entities of the Group also take place on the same occasion.
The Islamic Development Bank is a multilateral development financing institution located in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. It was founded by the first conference of Finance Ministers of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC, now the Organization of Islamic Cooperation), convened December 18, 1973. The bank officially began its activities on October 20, 1975.
The present membership of the Bank consists of 56 countries. The basic condition for membership is that the prospective member country should be a member of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), pay its contribution to the capital of the Bank and be willing to accept such terms and conditions as may be decided upon by the IsDB Board of Governors.
Tajikistan joined the Islamic Development Bank in December 1996. The active portfolio of the ISDB in Tajikistan currently consists of 23 projects with a net commitment of around 191.1 million U.S. dollars.
