DUSHANBE, September 20, 2013, Asia-Plus -- An official ceremony of introducing the Chormaghzak Tunnel into operation is expected to take place in early October, according to the Ministry of Transport (MoT).

An official source at a MoT says construction of the tunnel has been fully completed and there are no any problems with introducing it into operation.

President Emomali Rahmon is expected to participate in the tunnel-opening ceremony, the source noted.

The 4,430-kilometer Chormaghzak Tunnel, which is part of the Dushanbe-Vahdat-Danghara highway construction project, has been constructed with the help of China.  China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) was the general contractor.

The tunnel has been dug under the Chormaghzak Pass, which is located some 35-40 kilometers southeast of Dushanbe.  The estimated budget for construction of the Chormaghzak Tunnel is some 70 million USD.
