DUSHANBE, March 3, 2014, Asia-Plus -- Workers involved in rehabilitation of the Vose-Khovaling road in the Kulob region of Khatlon province have been on strike for already three days, a source at the Ministry of Transport told Asia-Plus Monday afternoon.
According to him, they express dissatisfaction with wage rates and this issue will be discussed here today at a meeting of representatives of a MoT, Transport Projects Management Unit and China’s Sinohydro.
“We will discuss the wage issues and try to reach compromise,” the source said. He refrained from giving further details.
We will recall that the Asian Development Bank (ADB) approved a $70 million grant for project, which provides for rehabilitating and improving road safety and maintenance on approximately 88 kilometers of the Sayron-Karamyk road section of CAREC Corridors 3 and 5, and 87 kilometers of the subnetwork Vose-Khovaling road. The project will also improve about 30 kilometers of village feeder roads in Vose and Khovaling districts, construct roadside rest areas for male and female vendors and travelers, and pilot solar energy installations for villages with winter electricity deficiencies. Training on women’s entrepreneurship and the maintenance of solar power facilities, as well as public campaigns for community road safety awareness will also be provided.
