DUSHANBE, March 5, 2015, Asia-Plus – On Tuesday March 3, Tajik Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Umed Davlatzoda, met here with Mr. Toshinobu Kato, Director General of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)’s East and Central Asia and the Caucasus Department.

According to the press center of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MEDT), the two exchanged views on state and prospects of further expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and JICA.

During the meeting, Mr. Toshinobu Kato reportedly offered proposals regarding plans, programs and implementation of joint projects.

We will recall that the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Governments of Tajikistan and Japan and JICA signed off on March 3 on a new, two and half year project that will see 160,000 people from Tajikistan and Afghanistan using the target Border Crossing Points (BCPs) and cross border markets benefit from a safer, better run border.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency is an independent governmental agency that coordinates official development assistance (ODA) for the government of Japan. It is chartered with assisting economic and social growth in developing countries, and the promotion of international cooperation.

JICA started providing technical assistance to Tajikistan in 1991, and Representative Office of JICA in Tajikistan was established in 2006.
