On Wednesday December 7, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon received Ms. Lilia Burunciuc, the Regional Director for the Central Asia Region at the World Bank and Mr. Johannes F. Linn, the Executive Director of the Wolfensohn Center for Development.

According to the Tajik president’s official website, the meeting focused on ways to mitigate the effects of the global financial crisis on the national economies.

Rahmon reportedly noted that Tajikistan appreciated international financial institutions’ support for development of its economy and intended to use their experience for its further development.

Tajik leader also expressed confidence that development partners would support the country’s budget under crisis conditions.

Besides, the sides discussed issues related to anti-crisis measures taken by the government of Tajikistan, strengthening of the national economy, and improvement of wellbeing of the population, the website said.  

The World Bank’s active portfolio in Tajikistan includes 23 projects (including regional projects and trust funds) with a net commitment of $357 million.
