Prices for some basic food products have begun rising in Tajikistan ahead of Ramadan.  Thus, the price of meat has risen in the provinces from 40.00 to 45.00 somoni per kilogram.

In Dushanbe, an average price for one kilogram of meat is till the same – 40.00 somoni.

Meanwhile, in Khujand, the capital of Sughd province, the price of one kilogram of beef has risen from 38.00 somoni to 40.00 somoni.

The price of one kilogram of tenderloin has risen in Khujand from 50.00 somoni to 52.00 somoni.

The price of one kilogram of lamp has risen in Sughd province from 48.00 somoni to 50.00 somoni        

The price for one kilogram of local chicken has risen in Khujand from 15.00 to 17.00 somoni. 

In Tursunzoda, the price of one kilogram of meat has risen from 40.00 to 45.00 somoni.

In Bokhtar, the capital of Khatlon province, and Kulob (Khatlon province), the price of one kilogram of meat has risen from 38.00-40.00 to 45.00 somoni.  

Meanwhile, an average price of one liter of vegetable oil remains the same – 10.00 somoni.

The price of one kilogram of the most popular variety of rice “kenja” has risen in the provinces from 7.00-8.00 to 9.00-10.00 somoni.  

In Khatlon province, egg prices have risen from 0.9 to 1.00 somoni piece.    

Recall, the price for a 10-kilogram box of chicken has risen in Dushanbe from 260.00 somoni to 290.00 somoni.  

The price for a 50-kilogram sack of wheat flour has risen at Dushanbe’s bazaars from 170.00 somoni to 200.00 somoni.  

Prices for potatoes and onions have risen by 4.00 somoni.

Prices for tomatoes and cucumbers have also risen significantly at Dushanbe’s bazaars.  Thus, the price for one kilogram of cucumbers has risen from 3.50 somoni to 5.00 somoni.  The prices for tomatoes and cucumbers have reportedly risen because of bad weather conditions.  

Some people attribute rise in prices for food basic products to the approach of the holy month of Ramadan because people usually do big shopping on the threshold of it.  “Using this moment, merchants want to earn more,” they say.

Meanwhile, butchers say the price hike has resulted from increasing price of cattle.
