A fee for entrepreneurial activity on the basis of patent rises 8.0 percent in Tajikistan, says a joint order on indexing the amount of payment for patent released by the Ministry of Finance and the Tax Committee under the Government of Tajikistan in late January this year.

The order has been submitted for consideration to the Ministry of Justice, and after official registration and publication in a state-run newspaper the new patent payment rate will take effect.

Every year, the process of harmonization and registration of the order usually finishes before the end of March and the document is expected to come into force on April1, according to the Ministry of Finance.

Recall, the Ministry of Finance and the Tax Committee are authorized to index and set new patent payment rate since 2014.

For the last time, the patent payment rate was increased in Tajikistan last year – by 5.4 percent.

For example, wedding singers will have to pay 720 somoni per month and nasvai sellers will have to pay 320 somoni per month.

Nasvai or nas is a finely ground, moistened dipping tobacco product found in Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran and India. In Tajikistan, although cigarette prevalence is low (under 10%), nasvai use is significantly higher (up to 60% among certain populations).
