The Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan (MoT) has concluded an agreement with China’s Nanjing Communication Engineering Co. Ltd and Tajikistan’s Closed Joint-Stock Company Zavodi Asfaltu Beton (asphalt and concrete plant) on construction of roads in Khatlon province, according to the MoT press center.  

It is about building 9.72-kilometer Bokhtar-Levakant and 30.28-kilometer Lolazor-Levakant roads in Khatlon.  The roads will be built within the framework of the road rehabilitation project.  

Nanjing Communication Engineering Co. Ltd. offers infrastructure construction services. the Company constructs roads, bridges, tunnels, houses, and other related projects.

The road rehabilitation project reportedly involves construction of five highways in the country.  

The MoT press center notes that 18 foreign and two domestic companies (Ideal-Service LLC and CJSC Zavodi Asfaltu Beton) have participated in an international tender for construction of the mentioned two roads in Khatlon province.

Australian SMEC Holdings Limited will control the quality of construction work. 

SMEC Holdings Limited (formerly Snowy Mountains Engineering Corporation) is an Australian-based firm that provides consulting services on major infrastructure projects around the world.  SMEC undertakes feasibility studies, design, tender and contract management, construction supervision and project management.  The company provides engineering services for transport, hydropower and energy, water and environment and resources projects.

In an address to a joint meeting of both chambers of the parliament, President Emomali Rahmon noted on December 23 that with a view to improving the condition of roads and highways and transform Tajikistan into a transit country, 13 public investment projects amounting 5.130 billion somonis were in the field of transport over the past 5 years in the field of transport.  As a result, 250 kilometers of highways, 42 bridges, 4 corridors and several flyovers were reportedly built in the country.

“Currently, 17 public investment projects totaling 11 billion somonis are being implemented in this sphere,” Rahmon said, noting that during the next three years, six projects totaling 7.4 billion will be implemented.

This will enable to construct and commission 317 kilometers of international highways, 32 bridges, 5 tunnels with a length of 11.2 kilometers and 7 corridors, the president added.
