A two-day investment forum of Tajikistan and The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (UK) took place in London on March 28-29.
Representatives of relevant government bodies of Tajikistan and as well as entrepreneurs of the two countries working in the fields of energy, production, service delivery, logistics and pharmaceutics reportedly participated in the event.
According to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tajikistan (CCI), representatives of the country’s private sector and senior representatives of a number of relevant ministries and agencies participated in the forum while the British side was represented by top managers of more than 80 leading companies of the United Kingdom.
An exhibition of Tajik products was reportedly held on the sidelines of the forum. Tajik enterprises put on display their achievements in industry, mining, agriculture, tourism and relevant industries at the exhibition, the CCI press center says.
“The main objective of the forum is promoting expansion of trade and economic cooperation between Tajikistan and the United Kingdom, attracting investment in various sectors of Tajikistan’s economy, searching in for business partners among entrepreneurs and developing Tajikistan’s investment and export potentials," the CCI press center notes.
Tajikistan’s State Committee on Investment and State-owned Property Management (GosKomInvest), British investors have invested 714.8 million dollars in Tajikistan’s economy.
The United Kingdom is one of the top four investors in Tajikistan, behind only China, Russia and the United States.
According to data from the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and the United Kingdom in 2022 valued at about 6.2 million U.S. dollars, which is 28.4 percent more than in 2021. This consisted of Tajikistan’s exports to the United Kingdom estimated at US$468,100 and Tajikistan’s imports from the United Kingdom worth US$5,256,200.
