Tajikistan produced 2.1 million tons of cement in the first half of 2023 and exported more than 538 thousand tons of them to other countries. This is 138 thousand tons less than in the same period last year.

The main buyers of Tajik cement are Uzbekistan – 342 thousand tons, and Afghanistan, which was supplied with 194 thousand tons worth about $ 20 million.

As you know, a temporary ban on cement exports was introduced in July this year. But the ban did not last long: since the beginning of August cement exports have been allowed again.

The head of the Export Agency Bahriddin Sirodzhidinzoda called the reason for the temporary ban in the problem of taxation of enterprises producing cement, as well as in the issue of the price of cement exported to Uzbekistan. Now, according to him, this problem has been resolved, and at the moment the ban has been lifted.

The Minister of Industry and New Technologies of Tajikistan, Sherali Kabir, announced earlier that the ban on cement exports had been in effect for only five days and was caused by a shortage of high-quality cement in the construction of strategically important economic facilities of the country.

However, both managers denied rumors about a shortage of cement for the construction sector. According to Sherali Kabir, cement production increased by 4% compared to the first half of 2022.

According to forecasts of the main macroeconomic indicators of the Republic of Tajikistan, 4.5 million tons of cement are planned to be produced this year, and exports should exceed 1.5 million tons.

Currently, 16 enterprises produce cement in Tajikistan. Their total annual capacity is 5.6 million tons of products.

The main producers are LLC "Juntai Moher" and LLC "Huaxin Gayur Cement" in Java, as well as "Huaxin Gayur (Sugd) Cement".
