The Minister of Agriculture Qurbon Hakimzoda told reporters in Dushanbe on February 2 that last year’s gross agricultural product from all categories of farms was 63,028,400,000 somonis (in current prices).

The minister noted that compared to 2022 last year’s gross agricultural produce increased by 9.0 percent (in 2022, the gross agricultural product amounted to 49,272,400,000 somonis).

The 9.0-percent increase reportedly resulted from 4.6-percent increase in potato production, vegetables – 11.5 percent, melon crops – 19.9 percent, fruits – 29.7 percent, meat – 14.5 percent; poultry meat – 14 percent, milk – 5.0 percent, eggs – 1.0 percent, honey 2.0 percent, fish – 14.9 percent, and wools – 4.5 percent.  

Tajikistan is a highly agrarian country, with its rural population at 70% and agriculture accounting for 60% of employment and 24.6 of GDP in 2023.
